Rising dramatically from the arid altiplano of southwestern Bolivia, Licancabur is an imposing stratovolcano, standing at 5916 meters. This giant is not merely a geological marvel but a sacred icon in the local culture.
The symmetrical cone of Licancabur dominates the landscape near the border of Bolivia and Chile, overlooking the mesmerizing Laguna Verde and Laguna Blanca. The volcano's perfectly shaped silhouette against the azure sky makes it a photographer's dream.
During my visit to this area in 2016, I climbed up on one of the hills on the opposite side of the lakes. Hiking at this high altitude was difficult, and I was quickly out of breath. But I found a beautiful scene with the golden grasses in the foreground illuminated by the setting sun. The resulting photo is now available as a photographic print to illuminate your home.
